Rebecca Bloomwood is a New York City girl who just can’t say no to a new pair of shoes, a stylish Gucci bag, or a beautiful green $100 scarf. She’s become a casualty to the all too common credit card debt monster because of her addiction to fashion. She owns around a dozen credit cards, most of which are maxed out, but that doesn’t stop Rebecca from shopping around, that is, until the debt collector comes around.
Rebecca is a journalist at a small paper that, unfortunately, closes down, leaving her with thousands of dollars of debt, and no job to pay off her credit cards. Rebecca shoots for her dreams and sees an opening for a fashion writer at a prominent fashion magazine. After being turned down for an interview, Rebecca ironically lands a job at Successful Savings magazine that writes about being financially secure. She writes a sensational article that compares saving money with shopping. Her reputation starts to soar, and the ending will have you wanting more.
Isla Fisher makes a star appearance in this not so original chick flick as she takes center stage with her charismatic personality and adorable addiction to fashionable items she doesn’t need. Without Fisher’s zealous acting and Hugh Dancy’s good looks, the movie might not have been so enjoyable to sit through. The story is predictable, but the comedy makes up for the cliché ending. Fisher will have you giggling at her ridiculous bad habit, and then learning something about growing up and taking responsibility while standing out amidst the crowd.
